the life project week 3: not the foodie blog...

Gluten Free White Chocolate and Coconut Macaroon
from The Black Medicine Cafe in Edinburgh.
Last week I promised you all a foodie blog as an update on how I'm getting on with the gluten free challenge and The Life Project...

This is not that blog, for 1 very good reason...
That blog would be very boring.

I'll be honest Gluten Free hasn't changed my life all that much, and it also hasn't really been that much of a challenge.

At home I only really eat veg and crazy amounts of porridge and going gluten free means that I have been eating... veg and err crazy amounts of porridge, although I have been missing my more crunchy cereal sad but true.

Of course, been glamorous, and living on 'Magic Money' (another post all together) I eat out far more than I should.

I thought this would be more difficult that it has been, but nope, because I am not allergic to gluten, I don't really have to worry about where my food is being prepared and most places if not everywhere do a gluten free option.

I've already wrote about Gluten Free Brownies, but with out a doubt the best Gluten Free cake I've found yet has been the White Chocolate and Coconut Macaroon from The Black Medicine Co. in Edinburgh! Home cooked is obviously the best!

Gluten Free to Dip
Don't look at the weird colour, and after the first
few bites you won't notice the difference!
And as for a main meal, well I find it hard to believe you can beat Dough in Manchester for food anyway but their menu is incredible for dietry Requirements, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegan pizza anyone? Ask Hannah she LOVES it.

I love my food honestly, I really really do, but I do worry about my weight. So I was, I admit, kind of hoping I would loose weight on this challenge, I haven't, although I think I may have lost a lot of the bloat (no really somedays I look scarily pregnant) and I do feel better, with out the bread clogging up the veg and all that.

Other than loosing weight, this task was about control, and while I have in many cases substituted foods for gluten free versions rather than out right saying no, I haven't once given in.

In fact in the take away last Friday, I asked for a falafel and hummus wrap with out the wrap, they said no (thank you Scotland), so I met the challenge head on, and simply ate everything but the wrap.

And when you've been awake for 18 hours and have consumed A LOT of alcohol, well, that takes will power made of steel!

  1. I was such a good friend, stepped up and ate the wrap in Edinburgh. To be honest, the sneaky bits of falafel I stole were better..
